- Book Synopsis
- This is a bus book with a difference! It tells the true story of how the author, a Glasgow Irish lad, started working as a conductor on the buses in 1969 as a holiday job at the end of his first year at Glasgow University, where he had been reading History. It was quite a start for a boy from a good Catholic home to enter the smoke-filled, expletive-laden world of a Western SMT bus depot. The 18-year-old Hugh had a camera and kept a diary of his adventures on the buses, which he only recently came across again, and after removing the x-rated bits, it's all here! The territory covered included Glasgow, Renfrewshire and Ayrshire, home of the dreaded 15 route number 'The Last Ardrossan'. At age 21, Hugh could become a driver, and his driving adventures are recounted in the last chapter.
