- Michael Vennard is a life-long cyclist but had never heard of RAGBRAI - an organised ride in the USA that has been run annually since the 1970s. This multi-day ride across the state of Iowa sees around 30,000 people participate in it every year. In the 21st century, you would have thought it would be easy to get there and take part. But things didn't quite go to plan… This is the story of how Michael completed the ride, with the help and generosity of the strangers he met along the way. - About The Author
- Michael Vennard after leaving school at 16, spent nearly 40 years working for UK high street banks, and retired in 2024. He has been a recreational cyclist since the age of 14, spending more time on a bike than in a car. His cycling 'career' has included multi-day tours, year-round commuting, and racing both bicycle and tandem, at club level.
