- Simon McDoanld was the British ambassador to Germany before becoming permanent under-secretary at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Head of HM Diplomatic Service. He sits in the House of Lords as a crossbencher and is master of Christ's College, Cambridge. He is the author of Beyond Brittania: Reshaping UK Foreign Policy (2023).
