- Book Synopsis
- We all remember the lockdown. Adjusting to life without our usual freedoms took time, and even the animals seemed confused about where the boundaries lay. The empty streets and unsettling silence created an almost eerie atmosphere. As always, it was women who bore the burden of keeping food on the table, soothing tempers, and managing the frustrations that seemed to arise from nowhere. In a time of frayed nerves and unexpected struggles, the lessons learned were hard but unforgettable.
- About The Author
- Frances was born at the beginning of the Second World War, about 25 miles from London. Rationing of everything, especially sweets, continued until she was twelve. Her father served in the army and did not return until she was five, making him a stranger. Her sister was born in 1945. Because the roads were quiet and traffic was minimal, Frances could play safely in the street. Despite German bombers following the Thames toward London, very few passed through her area.
