- Jane Austen (1775-1817) is one of English literature's most beloved and popular writers despite publishing just six novels (two posthumously). During her lifetime her novels of (mis)manners were read by royalty and schoolgirls alike. Her novels have been translated into over 35 languages and are celebrated around the world for their wit and charm. Her works are celebrated at the annual Jane Austen Festival in Bath, while societies honouring her work exist across the world.
