- About The Author
- Charlotte Brontë was the eldest of the three Brontë sisters, a family who are now considered the world's most famous literary family. Born in 1826, Charlotte lived with her sisters, father and brother at the parsonage in Haworth in Yorkshire. Between them, they produced some of English literature's greatest novels. In addition to Shirley, Charlotte also wrote Jane Eyre and Villette. She sadly died in 1855 after suffering complications during a pregnancy however her books have endured through the centuries and are known to be some of the finest literary works to have come from Yorkshire.
