- Book Synopsis
- Succession chronicles Everton legend Colin Harvey's turbulent tenure as manager, affectionately but candidly capturing his doomed attempt to follow in the footsteps of Howard Kendall. Novelist and lifelong Evertonian Nathan O'Hagan revisits the era through personal memories, archival research and interviews with prominent supporters, writers and journalists. The book tracks the initial enthusiasm surrounding Harvey's appointment, the weight of expectation and his struggle to replicate the success he had helped create as a player and coach. Set against a backdrop of boardroom inertia, tragedy, the resurgence of rival teams and a looming cultural shift that would change the face of English football forever, Harvey's commitment to the club he loved never wavered. O'Hagan offers a sympathetic, clear-eyed account of a pivotal yet often overlooked chapter in Everton's history.
