- Book Synopsis
- 'Absolutely and completely brilliant... The Chrysalids is a top-notch piece of sci-fi that should be enjoyed for generations yet to come' - The Ottawa Citizen Nuclear war has transformed life on Earth. Genetic mutation has become a fact of life and religious fundamentalism has taken hold of society. Deviation from what is 'normal' is punished unforgivingly. David Strom and his cousin Rosalind are mutants. As they grow up, it becomes harder to conceal their differences from their parents and their community. At the same time, David discovers that he possesses extraordinary powers - and the ability to change the world for the better. Soon he will have to choose between admitting his mutation to the intolerant village elders, or venturing out into the terrifying Badlands... John Wyndham's disturbing dystopia is a heart-wrenching tale of xenophobia and bigotry in a world ravaged by war. Powerful and profound, The Chrysalids is a masterpiece of science fiction and its insights remain as relevant today as when it was first published
