- Alan Gill was born into the poverty of North Yorkshire before the war and completed his formative years in the long-ago Malaya of the 1940s and 50s, getting to know the father who had been away and out of his life during his infancy. He witnessed at first hand the violent conflict between the military and police forces and the communist bandits. In later years he settled in Canada, where he still lives, and developed a passion for cricket, and for writing.
