Upon arriving in Nome, faced with fraudulent arguments over the legitimacy of the excavation cases, McNamara prevails to be named the beneficiary of all of the region's most valuable mining claims. Glenister, Dextry and various gullible Swedes have their property confiscated. The diggers hire legal advisers to fight on the legitimate side and also organize a vigilante group to fight against the "law". McNamara brutally manages and exploits the mines himself.</p>
