- Book Synopsis
- The photographs gathered together in this book reflect changes to Thornbury over the last 130 years. A wide range of subjects has been chosen to illustrate the broad breadth of that change, in all its guises. For centuries the thriving livestock market was at the centre of life in the town and images recall some of its history and eventual demise. Architecturally the main streets may look untouched by time but a closer examination shows the many detailed alterations that have occurred. The continuing charm and character of Thornbury, The Jewel of the Severn ValeA" are revealed. Also recorded are the lives of Thornbury people, past and present, both at work and at play. Our forebears would recognise some activities but others perhaps would surprise or even shock them.
- About The Author
- Tony Cherry joined Thornbury & District Museum some 10 years ago and became a trustee of the museum about 7 years ago. As Chair of Governors at Gillingstool School, he wrote the 150 year history of the school. He then joined Meg Wise in compiling the first edition of Thornbury Through Time. This was followed by a book about Thornbury Workhouse and a fourth book about Thornbury Castle.
