- Villette was Charlotte Bronte's fourth novel and while not as well-known as Jane Eyre, it draws on Charlotte's experiences as a teacher at a boarding school in Brussels where she taught English. The name Villette refers to the fictional French town to which the main protagonist of the novel, Lucy Snowe, travels to take up a post at a girls' school. While there, Lucy finds love with an English doctor, but the conniving of others and events force them apart. - About The Author
- Charlotte Bronte (1816-55) was the eldest of the three famous Bronte sisters. Charlotte acted as a mother figure to her sisters and brother, but eventually married a curate (Arthur Bell Nicholls) against her father's wishes. Sadly, Charlotte died due to complications in pregnancy. Her legacy is a series of novels that have become classics of English Literature.
