- Book Synopsis
- "Unquestionably a major work of American fiction . . . A book that will astonish and enrich anyone who reads it." - The New York Times Book Review. Based on the author's own experiences, this pioneering naturalistic novel unfolds amid the tobacco fields of Kentucky. Championed by Sinclair Lewis, it offers a realistic portrayal of the crushing physical and psychological effects of poverty on a spirited young woman who longs for freedom and self-expression.
- About The Author
- Canadian-born author Edith Summers Kelly (1884-1956) graduated from the University of Toronto before moving to New York City's Greenwich Village.
