- Book Synopsis
- Discover anew the dramatic world of one of literature's most unforgettable Gothic novels. Enhanced with the celebrated botanical artwork of Marjolein Bastin, this beautiful collector's edition brings new depth and beauty to Emily Bront¦&«'s timeless story of love, revenge, and redemption. The Earnshaw family estate of Wuthering Heights lies in the rough moorland of West Yorkshire; it is here that orphan boy Heathcliff finds a permanent home with Mr. Earnshaw, his son Hindley, and his daughter Catherine. While Hindley torments his new brother, Catherine welcomes him into the family, and the two become inseparable. After Mr. Earnshaw's death, however, Heathcliff becomes an outcast and Hindley squanders his inheritance. Catherine feels compelled to marry the wealthy neighbor, Edgar Linton, instead of her true love. Heathcliff is crushed, vowing to seek revenge on both families. Torn by his conflicting passions, Heathcliff risks everything for love, and neither time nor space-not even death-will stop him. Emily Brontë 's only novel remains one of the greatest achievements of English literature, celebrated for its unforgettable characters, atmospheric setting, emotional intensity, and groundbreaking exploration of passion, loss, and the enduring power of love. Marjolein Bastin's graceful nature illustrations beautifully complement the wild landscapes at the heart of the novel, while thoughtfully designed maps, letters, family trees, sheet music, and period-inspired ephemera create an immersive reading experience worthy of this literary masterpiece. - About The Author
- Marjolein Bastin's passion for the natural world is of a universal quality that appeals to people the world over. You can find Marjolein's artwork on greeting cards, calendars, dinnerware, bedding, gifts, and many other products. But for Marjolein, only one thing remains important: spend every day behind her desk painting the natural world around her. She also writes and illustrates children's books featuring the endearing Vera the Mouse character, which she created. Through her art and words, Marjolein offers people a simple reminder to pause and enjoy nature and allow it to be a source of serenity, energy, and healing. Finding inspiration in a bird lighting on a branch or a leaf drying in the autumn sun, Marjolein takes long walks each afternoon to seek new ideas for her artwork and her writings. Marjolein and her husband, Gaston, divide their time between country homes in Holland, Switzerland, and in Missouri, as well a tropical retreat in the Cayman Islands. Each setting provides a unique glimpse of what nature has to offer throughout the world. The couple has a son, Mischa, a daughter, Sanna, and two grandchildren.
